Learn To Skate USA Program

 
 PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Glacier Skate Academy is the first place to start if your son or daughter is interested in figure skating, hockey or recreational skating.  Our program is designed for skaters of all ages and levels of experience. It will focus on fun, participation and skating skill development for both figure skating and hockey.  Skating lessons are taught in a group format led by a professional coach certified by the Professional Skaters Association and assisted by trained program assistants.  Sessions stay active through the use of teaching aids, and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment to promote learning.  Classes are designed to teach the fundamentals of skating so individuals can continue on as a hockey player, figure skater or recreational skater.
Classes are 30 - 45 minutes in length.
Fees include class registration, ice time and professional coaching.
 

For insurance purposes, all skaters must be registered with Learn to Skate USA

prior to registering for the Glacier Skate Learn to Skate program. If you have registered with Learn to Skate USA on or after July 1st, 2017. Your current USFSA # is good until June 30th, 2018 without any additional payment.

Snowplow Sam and Pre Hockey

Ages: 3 - 5 (USFSA Snowplow Sam 1-4)

The Snowplow Sam levels are introductory classes divided into four progressive levels allowing children with no prior skating experience to build confidence while learning the basic skills of skating. These classes are designed to help children six and younger develop the ABCs of movement – Agility, Balance, Coordination and speed. The ABCs are essential for developing fundamental movement skills and physical literacy. All classes will be taught in a safe and positive environment, incorporating fun and games making class time an enjoyable experience for all. 

Off-ice orientation prior to the first skating class: 

Equipment check – Proper fit and lacing of skates, appropriate attire, and safety helmets. 

Practice falling and recovery, marching in place, dips and one-foot balances. 

 
Basic Skills:  Ages 6+  (USFSA Basic 1-3)
There are six progressive levels of Basic Skills which introduce forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, and turns. Basic 1-3 Classes build confidence and provide skaters a strong foundation while learning to skate. Skaters will progress at their own rate and advance after skill mastery is demonstrated. The Skate USA Basic Skills program teaches the FUNdementals of ice skating and provides the best foundation for figure skating, hockey, and speed skating. All classes will be well-structured with the focus on proper skill development taught in a positive, FUN, and social environment.
FUNdementals:  Ages 6+  (USFSA Basic 4-6)
Basic 4-6 levels Focus on learning the ABC's of basic athleticism: agility, balance, coordination and speed. Skaters will learn and become more proficient at forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, and turns. These levels develop all of the fundamental skating skills on the ice. Upon completion of the Basic Skills 1-6 levels, skaters will be able to confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating (hockey or figure Skating).

Star Skate Team:  Ages 5+

Star Skate is the introduction to our figure skating program. Skaters that have passed the Learn to Skate USA's Basic Skills Basic 6 Test are eligible to move up into our Star Skate Team Program. Skaters who desire to move up must be able to commit to the schedule offered. This program is designed to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of Freestye, and Moves in the Field as well as have the opportunity to participate in Glacier Skate Academy's ice shows and at introductory level competitions.

Session 1: October 3-November 21* (11/23 & 11/24 classes will meet on 11/21 from 5:00-5:45 PM).

 

Session 2: November 28, 2017-January 25, 2018

Session 3: January 30-March 23, 2018

Session 4: April 3-May 17, 2018

Skaters registered in Session 2 are invited to participate in GSA's Holiday Show December 30 & 31, 2017 and take part in the "Junior Ice Men" and the "Junior Ice Ladies" portion of GSA's Winter Training Seminar with Olympic Silver Medalist Paul Wylie, January 26 & 27, 2018.

Class #3: FRIDAYS* from 9:00 AM - 9:45 AM (*11/24 class will meet on 11/21 from 5:00-5:45 PM )

Cost to sign up: 

1 class per week: $125.00

2 classes per week: $225.00

3 classes per week: $275.00

(Includes: Ice Time & Professional Coaching Fees)
