Meet our Skating Directors
and Coaches!
Sean Wirtz & Kristin Cowan

Sean Wirtz grew up in northwestern Ontario and comes from a strong skating family.  He lived and trained with his uncle Paul Wirtz, a World and Olympic coach, throughout most of his competitive career.  Sean is a Canadian national champion and international competitor in both pairs and singles skating, representing Team Canada for ten years.  He achieved his greatest international success in pairs, competing on the Senior Grand Prix Circuit throughout the mid-2000’s.  He finished fourth in 2005 at Skate America and fourth in 2006 at Skate Canada.  His most significant accomplishment came in 2006 when he won the bronze medal at Four Continents.  He retired from competitive figure skating in 2007 and started his professional career on cruise ships with Royal Caribbean.  Since then, he has toured the world skating for many different companies.

Sean has a passion for coaching and has worked with many students of all different levels and abilities.  Throughout his career, he has been coached by and skated with numerous world and Olympic champions.  He has trained in Canada, the United States, and Russia, learning countless different techniques and gaining a great knowledge of skating skills.  He began coaching while still a competitive skater himself, and his greatest success was in Hackensack, New Jersey when he coached a junior man to a junior Grand Prix competition.  He is a great technician and especially loves breaking down jumps and helping the students understand which techniques work best for their own personal styles.  He takes great pride in instilling the knowledge of the proper ways to train so students can attain their own personal goals.

Kristin began skating at the age of five in her hometown of Spokane, Washington.  She loved participating in competitions and local ice shows, and growing up she was inspired by her mother, a former Ice Capades performer, and her father, a feature film producer and director. After high school, she went to Santa Clara University to study accounting and finance.  She missed skating, decided to join the show world, and has performed all over Europe, North America, and South America for the last decade.  She has been a principal pair skater for several companies, including Holiday on Ice and Disney on Ice.  She also went back to school and recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.  She is looking forward to moving back to the northwest and inspiring young skaters to achieve their dreams.  With her background in shows, she has a keen eye for performance and loves to work on artistry and grace with her students.
